Job Description:
Summary:
The Mechanical Project Engineer develops the initial engineering/design plan with the project team. The Mechanical Project Engineer manages the project's engineering from the proposal turnover through installation in the field. They also utilize their career experience and knowledge in a senior role within the engineering department.


Job Responsibilities:
·         Responsible for the quality, cost effectiveness, and timeliness of designs.
·         May direct the work of other Mechanical Engineers and Designers and act as a mentor.
·         Lead the mechanical efforts on assigned projects including the design phase. This role is also responsible for the design of machines/assemblies.
·         Responsible for conformance to design specifications.
·         Effectively communicate with other engineering teams such as controls, robotics, and vision.
·         Obtain necessary subcontract support and quotations.
·         Deliver mechanical engineering and design projects within budget and schedule
·         Meet quotation deadline requirements.
·         Support sales presentations.
·         Visit customer plants if needed
·         Participate in the development of sales presentation strategies and materials.
·         Process flow sequences and strategies
·         Part handling and fixturing methods
·         Station concepts, including operating sequences, timing charts
·         Material flow with system layouts and arrangements
·         Ability to use Lessons Learned and Best Drafting Practices while reviewing design concepts
·         Develop technical specifications.
·         Identify qualified vendors.
·         Communicate with vendors via phone and/or e-mail to provide line-ups, develop alternative solutions, and receive and clarify quotations.
·         Develop BOMs and drawings for release to Manufacturing.
·         Identify and resolve problems.
·         Obtain outside/vendor technical assistance.
·         Alert management to critical unresolved issues in a timely manner.
·         Maintain accurate project documentation.
·         Obtain final pricing and delivery decisions.
·         Finalize and transmit the proposal on schedule.
·         Ultimately responsible for the technical quality and commercial success of assigned projects.
·         Understands customer specifications and objectives of the project.
·         Establish and execute the timeline for the project per the customer requirements.
·         Adhere to the project budget.
·         Interface with and provide support to all operational departments including Sales, Service and Applications.
·         Address all customer concerns and requirements.
·         Regular reporting of project progress and status to the customer and management.
·         Participate in all the meetings regarding the project execution and progress.
·         Responsible for the entire design process and following the project through to manufacturing and build, debug, try-out, run-off, teardown, shipment, installation, start-up, and buyoff for all assigned projects.
·         Responsible for the delivery of all the As-Built drawings, manuals, and documentation to the customer.
·         Review the overall performance of the project with departmental managers and provide input on how we can make improvements for future projects (Continuous Improvement/Quality).
 
Skills:
·         A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
·         5+ years of experience designing assembly machines or other related automation equipment used in automotive manufacturing
·         Strong detailing/drafting skills and able to put together mechanical prints
·         Well-versed in GD&T
·         Ability to review/understand FEAs
·         Experience quoting/estimating cost of projects is helpful
·         Strong background designing with Solidworks
·         Experienced in designing systems around power and free conveyance, dials, indexing tables, walking beams. and other forms of transport.
·         Able to work with operations, controls, and other technical groups collaboratively on projects
·         Prior experience leading projects or teams is helpful
 
 
Compensation: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
